Conan!

Went to Conan O’ Brien’s Leaglly Prohibited From Being Funny On Tv Tour, it was pure awesome on every level. Was a little bummed that Kid Rock was the special guest, I mean come on. I was hopping for Bob Seager, Michael Moore, Alice Cooper, or somebody that wasn’t Kid Rock. But it was still cool.

Reggie Watts was the opener, and man was it cool to see him live. Could of went home happy after just seeing his set.

Fun with Win Terminals

So last weekend the local Goodwill got all the hardware of some poor buisness that went under. There was all kinds of stuff there, hubs, switches, LCD stands, WinTerminals, rack mount parts, etc. It was crazy, like an electronic palooza of sorts. I snagged one of the WYSE clients for 9.99 and brought it to work where everyone thought it was pretty cool. Two of the guys I work with went back and loaded up on the remaning goodies and got a couple of the WYSE’s too. Heres what the little WYSE’s 9450XE’s look like.

wyse_wt9450_21

The ones we got were running XP Embeded, and at various levels of freedom. Some allowed wrighting to their little 256mb solid state drives, while others were locked down tight. We spent more time then it was worth trying to get the WYSE device manager installed to flash them over the network, but gave up and installed laptop drives em. They have all the converter cables and power lines to run mobile IDE stuff which is awesome. Also since the little VIA’s just sip power they only pull .8 Amps to run over their little 12V AC adapters. They would make a great torrent box. But being that we can’t leave them alone we ended up installing the mobile drives, more Ram, and Windows XP Home. I put 7 on mine for a while, and while it was useable it also needed more Ram then I had. After we got them all running on XP, Travis and I started benched marked ours to see whos machine came out on top. His benchmark is with a solidstate page file and tweaked XP settings mines just stock.

Check out those numbers! YEAH!! Mine is the brain dead one thats pulling 0.00mhz. This stuff cracks me up because you know that some supper serious overclocker people are going to see ours in there. Go lil WYSE’s clients!

I present to you, the self destructing Pigeon

<KENOX S1050  / Samsung S1050>

I think that when Mitsubishi designed these things it wasn’t so much as a post war re-industrialization project for Japan as it was a psychological weapon designed to harm Americans in the future. I was working on it for the last couple days swapping out engines since the one in it had a slight rod knock, and after getting it all back together it backfired on the first kick and sheared the flywheel key. Maybe they were never meant to be ridden, maybe they are more a stationary sculpture then a scooter. The other c-75 Pigeon I have is not getting its original drivetrain put in it after this crap, thinking of force feeding it a nice Honda CRF four stroke.

The Bear Game

Here is something from a ways back, Mr. Bear!

baers bearlvl

Its the comps from when a couple of my co-workers and me decided to try and make an Xbox 360 XNA game. They were doing the coding side, and I was tearing up the art. So I did some lvl comps, made some flash animations of Mr. Bear running and walking to be used as sprites in the game. But sadly thats as far as we got. I’m not calling the project dead, cause I would still like to get a little flash game out of it, or maybe use the stuff for a kids book or something. Anyways the bears hopeless look makes me smile for some reason, he’s one melancholy bear.

Tripping out on Teddy Bears

So I know I haven’t posted a lot of stuff up here recently, I think it has to do when I had to get my apendix out back in the middle of last month. So heres the run down of what is on my to do list.

Circuit Bending- Have the switch box made, need to break some toys now

Nerf proximity gun- Have the parts, needs to be built

Aerial Video- Picked up a small camera, need to shove it in something

Got a new bike- Need to write something about that, cause its new and a bike.

And need to get up more pictures/photos

So that gives me a good pile of stuff to sort through. Check back often to see how much of it I completely ignore and end up not posting, its going to be fun :)

Fixing bent cpu pins. Bent pins!

<KENOX S1050  / Samsung S1050>

This poor Amd Sempron was mashed into its socket like a potato in a fry slicer by a deranged customer. To fix this type of damage you can get a credit card/id card and a small flat head screwdriver. Use the card as a gauge to make sure you bent the pins back in place by running it back and forth across the rows of pins. Not sure why I’m explaining this here, but there ya go.

Oh and check out this crazy Pentium II heatsink. It looks like it belongs on the end of a club.

Angry Compaq is angry

<KENOX S1050  / Samsung S1050>

I don’t know why I keep putting faces on things, maybe its a disorder. Oh well.

Since I don’t have anything else of value to put here, lets look at a sad Mac Book. It would not start, flat dead.

sad-mac

I fiddled with its battery and then decided to check the Ram. The first stick that popped out of the slot looked all funky with white stuff on it.

<KENOX S1050  / Samsung S1050>

Turned out that someone had coated the end of it in thermal paste, I don’t know why but they did. Ram does not like thermal paste smeared over it like cheese on a cracker, contrary to popular beliefs.

<KENOX S1050  / Samsung S1050>

After the nasty stick was removed the Mac was all happy and like “Watch me chime and boot cause I don’t have a bunch of crap shoved in my Ram slot”

Some Random Crap

So here we have some new stuff. This may be a future Woot shirt, not sure all depends. Its a big Tree Monster, I thought of it in that half awake stage you get when your just waking up and everything is still kind of out of wack. Kind of looks like a plata-tree.

Conservation Sketch

Heres a Dell I worked on that was being tarted. Would boot and run stuff, but no Windows starty. After popping the side off it I found out that there were 4 burst capacitors, AND WALDO! I caught that punk.

And here is a picture of my shrimpers in their natural habitat on the Great Steel Desk Reef. Look at those crazy little buggers.
